Grouped Gauge Chart Maker

Compare progress across categories with rings

A grouped gauge chart, also called a multiple KPI gauge or progress ring chart, draws several gauges as rings inside one another so you can compare how far along each one is. InstaCharts builds one ring for each category in a column, or one ring for each numeric column you plot, with up to 10 rings per chart.

Use cases

When to use a grouped gauge chart

Best uses

  • Compare fundraising or sales campaigns against a shared goal
  • Track progress on a project for each team, owner, or region
  • Show average ratings or scores for each product or support channel
  • Put several KPIs with different goals on one chart

When another chart fits better

  • More than six categories make thin rings, so a bar chart reads better
  • Trends over time suit a grouped line chart
  • One overall number suits a single gauge chart

FAQ

Grouped Gauge Chart maker FAQ

Answers to common questions about making a grouped gauge chart with InstaCharts.

What is a grouped gauge chart?

A grouped gauge chart shows several gauges as rings inside one another. Each ring fills toward its maximum, so you can compare the progress of a few categories or measures in one compact chart.

How do I make a progress ring chart?

Upload your data, choose Grouped Gauge, pick a numeric column for the Y-axis, and pick a category column as the breakdown. InstaCharts draws one ring for each category, all on the same scale.

Can each ring have its own goal?

Yes. Plot several numeric columns with Add Series and each column becomes its own ring, with its own Max and Target in the Chart Options panel. Rings made from a breakdown column share one scale and one target.

How many rings can a grouped gauge chart have?

Up to 10. Two to six rings are the easiest to compare. Use a filter to choose the categories you want to show when a column has more values.

Can viewers hide a ring?

Yes. Clicking a legend item hides or shows its ring, and the other rings resize to fill the space. Hovering over a ring shows its value, its percent of the maximum, and its target in the center of the chart.

Is the grouped gauge chart maker free?

Yes. The free plan lets you create and export grouped gauge charts with up to 500 rows per sheet, and charts include a small watermark. Paid plans starting at $10 per user per month remove the watermark.
